Key points
- Bitcoin is bought with dirhams by bank transfer from a UAE bank account, through a firm licensed to deal in virtual assets.
- MKX states a 1.5% trading fee, a 0% AED deposit fee and a minimum bank deposit of AED 380.
- Moving Bitcoin to an outside wallet is a separate step with its own minimum (0.003 BTC) and fee (0.0001 BTC).
- Bitcoin is volatile and no protection scheme covers it. Only buy what you can afford to lose.
The short answer
You buy Bitcoin (BTC) by sending dirhams from your UAE bank account to a licensed broker-dealer, which converts them to Bitcoin at a price it quotes. A broker-dealer trades with you directly and runs no order book. You pay one trading fee, and you can keep the Bitcoin in your account or withdraw it to a wallet.
If you want a stablecoin rather than Bitcoin, the same process is covered in the guide to how to buy USDT in Dubai with AED.
Before you start
Three things are worth settling first.
- The firm is licensed. Dubai regulates the firms that offer virtual assets instead of banning the activity, and VARA publishes a register of licensed firms. The guide on whether crypto is legal in Dubai shows how to read an entry. MKX is licensed by VARA for Broker-Dealer Services, reference VL/25/04/001, and the legal entity is MKX Virtual Assets Broker & Dealer Services L.L.C. Details are on the about page.
- You have a UAE bank account in your own name. Funding is by AED bank transfer. MKX does not confirm card, Apple Pay or Google Pay funding for Bitcoin purchases.
- You understand what you are buying. Bitcoin has no issuer promising a price. Its value can rise or fall sharply, and a licence does not change that.
The steps
- Check the licence. Search the firm's legal name on the VARA public register and compare the website address and the licensed activity.
- Open an account and verify your identity. A licensed firm completes identity checks before it can accept your money.
- Fund your AED balance. Send a bank transfer from your UAE account. MKX states a 0% deposit fee and a minimum deposit of AED 380. Your own bank may charge for the transfer.
- Place the order. Choose Bitcoin, enter the AED amount and review the quoted price and fee before you confirm. The trade screen shows the smallest order it accepts.
- Decide where the Bitcoin stays. It sits in your account until you withdraw it. See the section on holding below.
What it costs
Cost is the sum of a few separate charges. The figures below are those MKX publishes on its fees page and its Bitcoin page, read on 15 October 2026.
| Item | Stated figure |
|---|---|
| Trading fee | 1.5% per transaction |
| AED bank deposit fee | 0%, minimum deposit AED 380 |
| Bitcoin withdrawal minimum | 0.003 BTC |
| Bitcoin external withdrawal fee | 0.0001 BTC |
As simple arithmetic, 1.5% of an AED 1,000 order is AED 15. This illustrates the percentage and is not a quote. The price you receive is the one shown at the time of the order, and your own bank's transfer charges are on top.
Holding or withdrawing
You do not have to move Bitcoin out after buying it. Leaving it in your account is the simplest option, and MKX's security page explains how client assets and client money are held: dirhams sit in a Client Money Account with a regulated financial institution licensed in the UAE. MKX's terms name Fireblocks as the wallet custody services provider.
You can instead withdraw to a wallet you control, which is called self-custody. That has a 0.003 BTC minimum and a 0.0001 BTC fee at MKX. Copy the receiving address carefully, because a Bitcoin transfer cannot be reversed. When you later want dirhams back, the selling guide and the comparison of cash-out options explain the return route.
Risks to understand
- Price risk. Bitcoin can lose a large share of its value in a short time. You can lose all the money you invest.
- No protection scheme. MKX's terms state that clients' virtual assets are not covered by any deposit protection mechanism.
- Transfer risk. A wrong address on an outbound transfer usually means the Bitcoin is lost.
- Scams. Be wary of anyone promising returns or asking you to pay into a personal account. Verify the firm on the register first.

Frequently asked questions
Can I buy Bitcoin in Dubai with a bank transfer?
Yes. A licensed broker-dealer such as MKX takes an AED bank transfer from a UAE bank account and converts the dirhams to Bitcoin at a quoted price. You need a verified account first, and the funding route MKX states for Bitcoin is an AED bank transfer.
What is the smallest amount of Bitcoin I can buy?
MKX publishes one minimum for a purchase: an AED bank deposit of at least AED 380. Bitcoin divides into 100,000,000 satoshis per coin, so an order can be a small fraction of one bitcoin. The trade screen shows the smallest order it accepts.
How much does it cost to buy Bitcoin with MKX?
MKX charges a 1.5% trading fee per transaction and a 0% AED bank deposit fee. Moving Bitcoin to an outside wallet has a separate fee of 0.0001 BTC, and your own bank may add charges. Check the fees page for the current schedule.
Do I have to withdraw my Bitcoin after buying it?
No. You can leave it in your account or withdraw it to a wallet you control. An external withdrawal has a minimum of 0.003 BTC and a fee of 0.0001 BTC, so small balances may need to build up before they can be moved.
Is Bitcoin bought in the UAE protected if the firm fails?
No protection scheme covers it. MKX's terms state that clients' virtual assets are not covered by any deposit protection mechanism. A licence regulates the firm; it does not guarantee the value of Bitcoin, which can fall sharply.
Can I sell Bitcoin for AED later?
Yes. Selling Bitcoin for AED is a crypto-to-fiat trade carrying the same 1.5% fee. The dirhams arrive in your AED balance and can then be withdrawn to a UAE bank account.
