1. Who is responsible for your data
MKX Virtual Assets Broker & Dealer Services L.L.C. ("MKX") is responsible for the personal data described here. Its published privacy policy describes MKX as a company incorporated in the United Arab Emirates that owns and operates MKX.ae, "which includes our website, APIs, and mobile applications", and gives the registered address as Office No 4001, Concorde Tower 1, Al Thanyah Fifth, Dubai, UAE. The company record is on the page about MKX.
2. What MKX collects and why
The published policy lists three groups of data.
- Identification data: full name, address, email address, phone number, date of birth, national ID or passport, and a self-portrait photograph used to verify your identity.
- Financial data: bank account details, transaction history, and a bank statement or salary certificate where the source of funds must be verified.
- Technical and log data: IP address, browser type, time zone, device details and usage data collected through cookies.
MKX says it uses this data to run your account and carry out transactions, to meet its legal obligations, including the rules against money laundering and the financing of terrorism, and, with your consent, for marketing. It may share data with regulatory authorities, service providers bound by confidentiality, financial institutions that process transactions and security partners that help to prevent fraud.
3. How long data is kept
The policy says personal data is kept only for as long as it is needed for its purpose, to comply with legal obligations and to resolve disputes. In its own words: "Typically, data is retained for up to 8 years." Complaint records are a separate case: under the MKX complaints handling policy they are kept for a minimum of eight years.
4. Your rights under the UAE PDPL
In a section headed "Compliance with UAE PDPL", MKX says it follows the UAE Personal Data Protection Law. The rights the policy lists are these:
- access to your personal data;
- correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
- erasure, under certain conditions;
- temporary restriction of processing;
- your data in a structured, commonly used format;
- objection to processing based on legitimate interests or direct marketing;
- withdrawal of consent at any time.
The account itself is governed by the account terms and conditions.
5. Contact the Data Protection Officer
The policy has a "Data Protection Officer (DPO)" section. It says MKX will appoint a DPO as the point of contact for data protection matters, but it names no person and gives no dedicated address.
Until a DPO contact is published, send a data request to [email protected] and say which account it concerns. The phone number and the office address are on the page where you can contact MKX. How an account works is explained in the plain-language guides in MKX Learn.
